Alabama Shakes

Alabama Shakes, shakes the fashion world when Alabama Shakes started as a Roots Blues rock band with their debut album in 2012 (which can easily be compared to Janis Joplin and Aretha Franklin) they were unaware that their debut single, “Hold on” would give them the status as the greatest song of 2012 by Rolling Stones Magazine.  Later on, the album Boys and Girls ended up going Platinum, hitting #3 on the US Top Rock Albums and #2 on Top US Alternative, and #6 on the Billboard 200 in the UK. Critics have led some music lovers and listeners to believe the band is a “Revivalist” band, contrary to the band’s inspiration. Brittany Howard took inspiration from Bon Scott of ACDC, and Led Zeppelin; Blues, and Soul music. They crafted a Blues and Soul Southern Rock fusion that catapulted their second album named “Sound and Color” to four Grammy Awards in the areas of Best Alternative Album, Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song, and Best Engineered/Non-Classical. Later in their career, unfortunately, The Shakes separated but Brittany Howard ended up going solo and continuing to keep her focus on music. Recently, she has teamed up with a violinist on a new EP and has shown the willingness to go beyond her old school Blues and Soulful Rock roots to a more classical musical style. Fashion was a big statement left by The Shakes during their short album run. Brittany’s fashion was often bombastic as the soulful power in her voice, with her unique hats and variety of textured, colored dresses with black leggings. Her music and fashion statements will unarguably remain strong influences for years.By Austin Fuller
